Wade C. Ickes, Sr., of Smyrna, died on Wednesday June 9, 2004 at Green Valley Pavilion, Smyrna. He was 92.
He was born in McKees Rocks, Pa., the son of the late Herbert and Loretta Ickes.
An army veteran of World War II, Mr. Ickes served in Normandy, Northern France, and the Rhineland. He was awarded four Bronze Stars.
Mr. Ickes had been employed in various capacities, including working for the Pennsylvania Railroad prior to the war, and later in the Pittsburgh steel mills. He retired in 1975.
The son of a family of nine, he was proud to note that his ancestors were the founding family of the Township of Ickesburg, Pa.
Mr. Ickes enjoyed working as a mechanic in his spare time, and greatly loved his dogs.
He is survived by five sons; Wade C. Jr., of W. Hyattsville, Md.; James E., of N. Plainfield, NJ.; Theodore, of Stowe Township, Pa.; David, L., of Upper St. Claire, Pa.; and Kenneth R. Ickes, of Mckees Rocks, Pa.; a daughter, Vicki Mesick-Miller, of Townsend; three brothers: Harry, Herbert, and Hubert Ickes; a sister, Rozella Ickes; seventeen grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Services and burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, McKees Rocks, Pa.
